Mr. Uchi Terhile
Uchi Dominic Terhile, a final-year PhD student in the department of Agricultural Extension and Rural Development at Federal University Dutse, Nigeria, is a passionate climate change advocate dedicated to enhancing agricultural resilience. His research focuses on the impact of climate change on agriculture, with a particular emphasis on promoting climate-smart practices to improve the livelihoods of smallholder farmers in Nigeria. Uchi leads “Greener Tomorrow,” a group that provides guidance on sustainable farming techniques and digital climate advisory services. His advocacy work is highlighted in the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) video, Stories from Local Heroes: Regenerative Agriculture and Food Security in Nigeria, which has garnered over 1,000 views. Uchi was among the 2025 participants of the SustainFood Collaborative Learning School, organized by the Stockholm Environment Institute, Penn State University, and Michigan State University on the Food, Water, and Energy Nexus at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Ibadan, Nigeria. He is in collaboration with NATURAN on Nature-Based Solutions and Digital Climate Advisory Services led by the Euro-Mediterranean Centre on Climate Change (CMCC), focusing on nature-based solutions and digital climate advisory services, which earned him an award as Naturethon Champion. Uchi’s commitment extends to international events, including the “Sharing Best Practices in Sustainable Coastal Management” workshop in Bologna, Italy, organized by the Decade Collaborative Centre for Coastal Resilience. He has also attended the Africa Climate Resilient Investment Facility training in Dakar, Senegal, to enhance his knowledge and career in climate change, sponsored by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa. Uchi participated in the Biennial Africa Climate-Smart Agriculture Stakeholders Conference in Accra, Ghana, sponsored by the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA). His efforts in empowering women and youth in agriculture were strengthened through his participation in the Capacity Building Program at the Songhai Centre, Benin Republic, sponsored by the African Institute for Economic Development and Planning (IDEP). Uchi is a member of key initiatives under the United Nations Ocean Decade Actions, including Gamifying Tools to Increase Coastal Resilience (ID: 38.4) and CoastPredict’s Observing and Predicting the Global Coastal Ocean, where he proposed a pilot project in the Gulf of Guinea, Lagos, Nigeria..
