Professor Adebayo Shittu
Adebayo M. Shittu was born on November 19, 1968 at Ijebu-Igbo in Ogun State, Nigeria. He holds Bachelor of Agriculture Degree (Agricultural Economics and Farm Management) from Ogun State University (now: Olabisi Onabanjo University), Ago-Iwoye, 1992; M.Sc. (Agricultural Economics) from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, 1994; and Ph.D. (Agricultural Economics) from the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Nigeria, 2008. He joined the University system on February 2, 1999 and has since been on tenured appointment, with roles including teaching, research, and extension as well as consulting services, at Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Nigeria (1999 – 2009); Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (2009 till date), and Landmark University, Omu-Aran, Kwara State Nigeria (on Sabbatical appointment: February 2019 – July 2020). He rose to the rank of a Professor (Agricultural & Resource Economics) on October 1, 2015, and is currently on secondment to the FAO GEF7 FOLUR-IP Nigeria project, on which he serves as the Chief Technical Advisor.
Prof. A. M. Shittu has served as consultant to and/or led several large-scale studies funded by:
Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) as: (a) National Consultant (Sustainable Agriculture & Value Chain Specialist) in the preparation of project document for a Global Environmental Facility (GEF-7); (b) National Consultant (Agriculture & Coastal Resource Specialist) in the preparation of Concept Note for Adaptation Fund; (c) National Consultant (Nature-based Livelihood Expert) in the implementation of a UK Government funded UK-PACT Nigeria project.
European Commission: As a Key Expert in Value Chain Assessment: EU Support to Agriculture Value Chain Facility (EU VACE) in Nigeria (SIEA-2018-17390) under a service contract with SAFEGE Belgium.
Word Bank funded National Fadama Development Programme and the Commercial Agriculture Development Programme in Nigeria as Lagos/National Consultant in the Baseline, Midline and/or Endline Impact Evaluation of the programmes.
IFAD – Assisted Value Chain Development Programme (VCDP), National Project Management Unit: as the Lead Technical Consultant in the conduct of various M&E studies and training.

His Research and Development (R&D) activities have attracted research grant from Economic Community for West African (ECOWAS), United Kingdom Research and Innovation (UKRI), European Union Erasmus+ programme, International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), Centre for Development Research (ZEF) at University of Bonn, Germany, Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) in Nigeria, and Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (ARCN), among others.
Has served in various administrative capacities within the University System, including as Deputy Dean of the College of Agricultural Management & Rural Development, Deputy Dean of the Postgraduate School, and Head of AEFM Department at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Nigeria.
Professor A.M. Shittu is a member of International Association of Agricultural Economists (IAAE), Agricultural and Applied Economics Association (AAEA), Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (AERE), Northeastern Agricultural and Resource Economics Association (NAREA), Nigerian Association of Agricultural Economists (NAAE) as well as National Association of Organic Agriculture Professionals in Nigeria (NOAN). He is also a member of the African Growth and Development Policy (AGRODEP) modelling consortium, a network facilitated by the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), Washington DC with membership spread across Africa.
He has to his credit over 80 scientific publications and has trained/mentored several undergraduate and postgraduate students, including seven PhD, 26 Masters’ Degree holders and about 150 University graduates whose theses, dissertations, or projects were supervised by him.
